Every story shows its source
Under each story on this hub you will find a line that starts with Source:. That line is not decoration — it is the story’s proof. It links to the record we read, so you can read it too.
What counts as a source
- Court records — the court roll, a judgment, a bail ruling, a charge sheet read in open court.
- Police and government statements — SAPS releases, Hawks statements, IPID notices, departmental statements.
- Commission transcripts — the Madlanga Commission and other sittings, with the date and the timestamp.
- Official publications — the Government Gazette, tender documents, parliamentary papers, annual reports.
- The original reporting — when another newsroom broke the story, we name them and link to them. Credit is not optional.
Stories we could confirm across more than one outlet
Our evening roundup marks those stories CONFIRMED and lists every outlet that carried it. Independent confirmation is the cheapest truth signal there is — if two newsrooms with different owners published the same facts, the facts are probably right. When only one outlet has it, we say so.
How to check us
- Open the Source: link under any story. If it does not support the story, that is a correction — tell us and we will publish it.
- Read our corrections log. If a claim was wrong, the correction stays up, dated, forever.
- Re-use anything you like — with credit to Open Source News ZA and a link back to the story.
